What should the BIP foster

  • development of transnational and transdisciplinary curricula
  • innovative ways of learning and teaching
  • online collaboration
  • research-based learning

BIPs provide an opportunity to reach out to new groups of students, for example those in study fields where mobility opportunities have been limited or those who lack confidence to go abroad alone.

Accommodation for students

We have rented 5 apartments in Esslingen very close to the university. The apartments are very modern and comortable with fast WIFI, bathrooms, kitchen and terrace. Two or three students have to share a bedroom. Of course, we will take gender separation into account. Please follow the link to see the apartments: https://www.secondhome-stuttgart.com/ Of course, students can also book a hotel on their own responsibility but we recommend to take advantage of the offer, because that way they can get to know and network with each other. However, we strongly discourage students from looking for accommodation themselves as this will be very expensive.

Costs

Students who receive an Erasmus scholarship must pay a contribution to the accommodation costs over the fee of €210.

Arrival

After your individual transfer from the airport to the apartments by bus or train our student tutors will suppport you with check-in. Check-in is available from 11:00 am. There is only one key per apartment available, but the key can be deposited in a key box outside the apartment. Each resident will receive the code to open and lock the key box.

Departure

You will have to leave your room by 10:00 am at the latest. Our student tutors will suppport you with check-out.

Accommodation for Teachers

We recomend you to book your room in the Hotel ECOINN in Esslingen very close to the university (right on the Campus City Centre).

In April 2025 the Faculty of Management and Technology at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences was welcoming 22 exchange students and 2 lecturers from Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, and Zaragoza as part of the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) “Pedal to Success.”

At the center of this program, which consisted of a virtual phase and an on-site stay at the university, was a practice-oriented case study on the topic “Pedal to Success – A Case Study along the Global Value Chain in Bike Manufacturing.” The goal was to gain international perspectives on global value chains and to promote interdisciplinary thinking.

The academic program offered exciting lectures in the areas of Procurement / SAP, Marketing & Sales, Data Management, Finance and Investment, and Systems Thinking. The program was complemented by a variety of excursions, including a city tour of Esslingen, a visit to SAP in Walldorf, the Mercedes-Benz Museum, and a joint trip to the Deutsche Museum in Munich.

A special highlight was the International Night at the Hilltop campus and the international students hosted a culinary evening featuring specialties from their home countries.

With this international week, the Faculty of Management and Technology was sending a strong message for lived internationality, cultural exchange, and practice-oriented teaching.

Feedback

Thank you for an unforgettable BIP experience in Esslingen Dear Professors, Organizing Committee, and fellow students, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the wonderful experience during the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) in Esslingen.

I would like to thank the organizing committee and the faculty for your outstanding professionalism, your kindness, and the warm welcome you extended to us. It was a privilege to learn about your university, to immerse myself in the local culture, and to enjoy the delicious gastronomy. Everything was perfectly organized and deeply enriching.

I would also like to say a special thank you to all my fellow students from the different countries. It has been a pleasure to work in such a diverse and multicultural team. I am truly impressed by our collaboration, the hard work everyone put in, and the extraordinary results we achieved together.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to my colleague César, from the University of Zaragoza; thank you for your kindness and for being such great company during this trip. It has been a true pleasure to meet all the professors involved.

I am already looking forward to seeing many of you in Málaga soon! Furthermore, I am thrilled to share that we will be returning next year, and I truly hope to see you there again.

Thank you all for making this experience so memorable.

- Prof. Rocio Carillo Labella, UMA (Malaga)

Hard to believe a week in Esslingen am Neckar went by this fast. I joined the BIP "Pedal to Success" at Hochschule Esslingen - University of Applied Sciences as part of an international group of students from Universidad de Málaga, RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, VILNIUS TECH - Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Hanyang University and Universidad de Zaragoza.

We spent the week working through a case study on global bike manufacturing — from procurement and SAP to marketing strategies, data management, and finance. The kind of content that clicks differently when you're debating it with people from five different countries, each bringing their own take on how business actually works where they're from.

On top of that, a visit to Festo, a tour through the medieval old town of Esslingen, and an International Night where everyone brought food from home. It's the kind of week that reminds you how much you can learn outside a lecture hall.

A big thank you to Esslingen University of Applied Sciences and Universidad de Zaragoza for making this happen, to the organizers and coordinators behind the scenes, and to the professors for the great sessions. And of course, to everyone who was part of this week.

What an incredible week at the BIP in Esslingen! Hochschule Esslingen - University of Applied Sciences

I feel truly grateful for having had the opportunity to be part of such an enriching and international experience.

Throughout the week, we combined academic learning with real-world insights and cultural exchange. From discovering the impact of SAP and exploring the beautiful city of Esslingen, to visiting FESTO and diving into topics like Data Management, Marketing & Sales, and Finance & Investment, every day brought something new and inspiring.

One of the highlights was definitely the International Night, where we shared food, traditions, and laughs from all over the world. Moments like these remind you that learning goes far beyond the classroom.

A special thank you to all the professors Uta Mathis, Prof. Dr. Rainer Elste, Ben Marx, Dr. Philipp Schreiber, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Zürn, Christiane Höger-Riedel for their dedication and for sharing their knowledge, and of course to my amazing colleagues for making this experience so memorable. It wouldn’t have been the same without you!

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to our accompanying professors from Zaragoza César García-Hernández  and Málaga ROCIO CARRILLO LABELLA  for their support, guidance, and for making this experience even more meaningful.

Closing the week with a visit to Munich was the perfect ending to an unforgettable journey.

- Alba Suarez Gutierrez, UMA (Malaga)
